Back Pain: When Is It Serious?
Back pain is extremely common and usually not dangerous. However, certain symptoms indicate you need to see a spine specialist immediately.
Red Flag Symptoms
- Numbness or Tingling: In legs, feet, or groin area.
- Weakness: Difficulty walking or lifting your foot (foot drop).
- Bladder/Bowel Issues: Loss of control - this is an emergency.
- Fever with Back Pain: May indicate infection.
- Night Pain: Pain that wakes you from sleep.
